Regional Liaison for North America

I have recently returned from the American Music Therapy Association conference in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States, November 21-24. We celebrated 60 years of music therapy with the first professional organization in the United States established in 1950. Those attending the conference not only celebrated the past with a lecture by historical researcher Alan Solomon and improvisations of past stories by Ken Medema but also celebrated the future with a wonderful program of presentations about the practice of music therapy.
We also celebrated two people who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Mary Boyle and Dr. Cheryl Dileo. Dr. Boyle has been a music researcher, teacher and clinician for over 30 years. She presently teaches at SUNY at New Paltz and is the Chair of the WFMT Research and Ethics Commission (see https://www.wfmt.info//WFMT/Research_and_Ethics.html). Dr. Boyle has served both the regional and national associations over years. Mary has published and presented on the topic of comatose patients and research ethics. Cheryl also has served the region, national, and world organizations for music therapy. Her large number of publications and presentations has focused on a variety of topics over the years. She presently teaches at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. We celebrate both of their lifelong achievements!
