Music Therapy New Zealand (MThNZ) is preparing to host a very exciting and informative conference in Christchurch, on the

2nd and 3rd of October, 2010. There will also be a professional development day linked to the conference of Oct 4, for the benefit of registered music therapists.

The 2010 conference theme is "Playing in Tune - Working Collaboratively in Music Therapy", and further details of the opening address and major address can be found on the MThNZ website www.musictherapy.org.nz

The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is celebrating a successful annual conference that was hosted in Melbourne, Sept 18-19. Keynote speaker was Dr Lauren Stewart, Senior Lecturer, Dept of Psychology, Goldsmiths, University of London, who directs a research group and MSc program in Music, Mind and Brain. Dr Stewart is associate editor of the journal, Psychomusicology. In addition, registered music therapists had the opportunity to participate in a stimulating two-day professional development seminar, Sept 20-21.

Publications to look out for from Australian and New Zealand music therapists:

McFerrin, K. (2010). Adolescents, Music and Music Therapy: Methods and Techniques for Clinicians, Educators, and Students’. This practical text, published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, provides ideas, theoretical frameworks and inspiration for working with teenagers.

Karen Twyford & Tessa Watson (2008). Integrated Team Working: Music Therapy as part of Transdisciplinary and Collaborative Approaches. Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
