While we all celebrate with Canada as the 21st Winter Olympics comes to a close, music therapists in North America are turning their attention from being glued to one’s TV for the results of a race to the business of spring. Canadian music therapists are busily getting ready for their 36th national conference, “Music Therapy: The Harmony of Our Heritage” in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 12-15. Early bird registration is March 22 for all interested parties. We all wish the local chairs, Lara Robinson, MTA, and Anna Plaskett, MTA, an exciting and informative conference. Canadians also will be celebrating March as Music Therapy Month.
In the United States, music therapists in the seven regions are busy preparing for each of their own regional conferences. Links to all of the conference information are on the AMTA site, musictherapy.org. The Great Lakes Regional conference, Recharge Your Engine in Indy, is March 18-21, in Indianapolis, Indiana. I will be traveling to the Mid-Atlantic Regional conference, Inclined Toward Music Therapy, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 24-27. Music therapist in the Midwestern Region will be attending their conference, Raising Our Voices @ University Center for the Arts, in Fort Collins, Colorado on April 9-11. The New England Regional conference, Music Therapy: At the Edge of Tomorrow, is in Westbrook, Connecticut on March 18-20. Everyone in the Southeastern Region will be attending their conference, Explore the Magic of Music Therapy, on March 24-27 in Orlando, Florida. The Southwestern Region will celebrate their spring conference, Kickin' Back in Amarillo in Amarillo, Texas on March 25-27. And finally, the Western Region will be attending their conference, Lighting Up Live, in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 8-10.
As your liaison, I also will be attending the annual WFMT meeting held at the European Music Therapy Congress in Cadiz, Spain on May 5 - 9. I consider it a privilege to represent all of you. Please email me if you have any concerns that you would like me to take to the meeting and report.
May everyone travel safely to their respective conferences this spring and be renewed by the camaraderie among friends and the wealth of information shared.
