It was reported in the Gulf News on 26 June 2009 that Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai had met with the Minister of Education and all other education officials to discuss education strategies for the future. What is really exciting is that in a presentation by the Education Minister, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, he highlighted the ministry's efforts to promote school activities in sports, arts and music, and to organise competitions. At present in this region there is no official music programme in the local schools - it may not be initially apparent to those external to the region, but this is a highly significant step towards acceptance of music as an art form and thereafter acceptance of music as a therapeutic medium.
