To keep our members informed, we regret to announce that Australia will no longer be hosting the next World Congress of Music Therapy which was to have taken place in Melbourne in 2023. Australia’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC) came to this difficult decision upon reviewing all the uncertainties imposed by COVID-19, particularly regarding travel restrictions and sponsorship. Hosting the Congress online was also considered at length, however, due to the extreme time zone differences which would affect the majority of international music therapists, was not considered to be a viable option. The WFMT wishes to acknowledge the efforts of the Australian LOC, and thanks them for their transparency and collaboration throughout this process.
The WFMT officers are following protocol for determining a new host country for the event. We will notify you as soon as possible as to the details of the 17th World Congress of Music Therapy taking place in 2023.
