The only music therapy program available in Bahrain is at the Children's Academy. It started in October 2008 by Mrs. Aksana Kavaliova-Moussi (BMT, BA, MTA). Since then, it has been advertised in various local papers as one of the therapies available at the school. Also, it has been briefly highlighted by the Bahrain TV during the shooting of the formal school opening on March 11, 2009. Aksana participated in the 2nd International Conference on Autism in Manama (April 2009), where she had several opportunities to talk to the audience about music therapy and its benefits for kids and their families. Though informal (during discussions and Q&A sessions), these presentations raised more awareness among the professionals and parents. There also had been an article about Aksana's work in the "Gulf Daily News" in May. Hopefully, new academic year will bring more development in the field of music therapy in Bahrain.
