It was particularly good to meet with all the members of the Council of the World Federation. How lovely it was to get to know everyone in a way that can’t be achieved by e-mail….and to meet many of the European members of WFMT.Heartfelt thanks to Dr Gerhard Tucek and his organisers and helpers, to the Government of Lower Austria and to IMC FH Krems for making it such a success.Conferences provide such great opportunities for our continuing professional development (CPD), and a global event such as this is a perfect means of discovering musical and cultural variations from around the world. We had chance to absorb a range of approaches to research, clinical practice and training and to explore the meeting points for these three interweaving disciplines. By day and night, we heard and made great music together, a wonderful refreshment! As Regional Liaison for Europe, I was interested to hear from therapists across the region as they described their experiences. For some, music therapy is well established, but for others the current economic instability is having a negative effect on the morale of the professionals and the potential for development of the profession. Many professional associations in Europe have signed up as members of the WFMT for the coming three years. If you are a therapist working in a country where there is no professional body yet, do consider becoming an Individual Member of WFMT. It isn’t very expensive and will support your efforts in the process of establishment and recognition. My belief is that this can give us all a sense of belonging and allow our voices to become stronger as a Federation. For those who were unable to attend the World Congress, there is a wealth of resources available at http://www.musictherapy2014.org/Finally, many congratulations to all those who received awards at the Congress; I was very proud to see the UK and Europe so well represented!Angela HarrisonEuropean Regional Liaison[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
