At last there are signs of Spring here in Europe, heralded by birdsong and the tweets of therapists excitedly preparing for their visit to Austria for the World Congress in July. http://www.musictherapy2014.org/

Look at the menu and select a tasty banquet for yourself – meet up, listen, watch and participate!

* Compelling pre-conference seminars with students and therapists

* A wealth of high quality paper presentations giving an insight into music therapy practice/research around the world

* Spotlight sessions featuring some of the world’s most experienced therapists

* Roundtable discussions where vital issues for the profession will be debated

* Posters showcasing the academic rigor of music therapy research

* Workshops introducing approaches and music from many cultures

*A richly varied program of cultural events

At the heart of the Congress is the General Meeting of the WFMT, which is the chance for members to meet together and, by using their vote, to influence the future of the organization.

Speaking of conferences, it was a real joy last month to attend the 1st conference of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT), “Counterpoints: Music Therapy Practice in the 21st Century.” Well done, BAMT! The conference was opened by a great lecture from Dr. Cheryl Dileo, who spoke on music therapy and cardiac disease. The lecture was funded by the Music Therapy Charity in memory of our colleague, Dr. Tony Wigram, and it followed a brass fanfare dedicated to Tony and composed by Gordon Thornett, Music Therapist.

I was very pleased to present a poster on the work of the WFMT – and with the level of interest! Not everyone realized that when a professional association is a member of WFMT, so are the members of that association. There are opportunities right now to get involved and to help shape this international beacon for our profession.

So, on a final note - a quick reminder for professional associations across Europe to renew membership of WFMT before the Congress and to nominate a representative to vote on your behalf at the General Meeting. If you are not a member, do join us – more voices, more strength!

Look forward to see you in Krems…
