The Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD) has been working hard to organize presentations on topics that matter to you! We are calling for student involvement in a number of these special events, so check out the descriptions below for important deadlines. There is still plenty of time to plan your travels to Tsukuba, Japan. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet with future leaders in our field!1) Pre-Congress Seminar for Students: The Bridge: from Student to Music TherapistDate: July 4, 2017 from 1:00pm to 4:15pm FREE for studentsDescription: The transition from school to professional work as a music therapist is an exciting time, and there are many paths to pursue. Two leading experts in the field of music therapy, internship, education/training, and research will discuss navigating professional practices including: advocating for music therapy, creating proposals, professional writing, and integrating research and evidence based work in your practices.2) Pre-Congress Networking Event for StudentsDate: July 4, 2017 from 4:30pm to 6:00pmDescription: During this networking event, students will get the chance to meet music therapy students from around the world. A welcoming atmosphere will include ice-breaker activities specially designed for you to get to know music therapy students from different parts of the world. There will also be a special musical performance featuring students from the Conservatorio di Musica Luisa D’Annunzio, Italy. We hope this event will provide students with an opportunity to make new friendships, and meet “conference buddies”!3) Roundtable #1: Who wants to be a music therapy researcher?Date: July 5, 2017Description: During this roundtable, students will be provided with tips and tools on how to start their career as a music therapy researcher. Speakers will share their personal experience as music therapy researchers, including pertinent information regarding publishing in music therapy. Attendees will also have the chance to ask questions and start developing their research network.4) Lunchtime Jam SessionDate: July 6, 2017Description: The purpose of this lunchtime jam session is to highlight the rich musical and folkloric diversity music therapy students from around the world encounter in their life and work. We hope to provide a forum in which students can share, discover, and connect with each other. Guidelines for submission can be found here. Deadline: November 30, 20165) Student Poster SessionDate: July 6, 2017Description: The purpose of this poster session is to highlight the activity and achievements of music therapy student organizations and individuals across the globe, providing a forum in which students can share, discover, and connect with each other. Deadlines: October 31, 2016 (intent); January 31, 2017 (poster).6) Roundtable #2: ASD asks Japanese StudentsDate: July 7, 2017Description: A few months prior to the congress, the ASD will ask the music therapy community what they would like to learn about music therapy education and practice in Japan. During this roundtable, the gathered questions will be answered by a group of Japanese music therapy students, offering a unique cultural insight on education and the music therapy profession in Japan. Attendees will also have the chance to ask our special guests questions about their lives as music therapy students and related topics.SaveSave
