Studying Music Therapy North America

I love adventures! I came to North America to study music therapy right after I graduated from high school in South Korea. I started my very first music therapy course at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and transferred to William Carey University, Mississippi, USA later on. I appreciate the opportunity to explore greater opportunities and to experience different cultures and life styles. Studying in Canada opened a window to the world for me by preparing my heart to understand people who are different from me and by learning about the core elements of music therapy from wonderful professors such as Dr. Sandra Curtis, Dr. Petra Kern, and Dr. Lucanne Magill.Studying in U.S. gave me an opportunity to extend my dream. Attending conferences of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) always encourage me to consider broader and superior works. Moreover, I love to hear about the work done by music therapist who have been in different countries. It really connects me with other parts of the world. There were times, I was about to give up. But I am proud of myself that I have continued to pursue what I love to do and feel passionate about music therapy. Currently, I am in the process of applying for a music therapy internship (in the U.S.) and for volunteer work helping orphanaged infants in South Africa. I am very excited to move forward and follow my path.Pearl Jin Joo Choi, Music Therapy Student, William Carey, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USAOriginally from South Korea
