After moving to Bergen, Norway last August and having seen the lake near to the house freeze over and melt again, it is now time to look forward to the Third Norwegian Music Therapy Conference which will take place in Bergen between 19th and 22nd May 2011.

The First Norwegian Music Therapy Conference was back in 1997 in Oslo with the Second taking place in 2007 in Bergen. Under the title, ‘Music therapy in generations: Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue…’ this third conference promises to provide reflections of the past and on the future with a special theme of music therapy in Norway over the past 30 years. The keynote speakers are Hanne Mette Ridder, Chris Rojek, Brynjulf Stige and Even Ruud and a complete list of speakers and their chosen topics can be found on the Conference’s website.

The site selected for the conference is Fana Folkehøgskole, an idyllic school that was established in 1917 on the site of a farm dating back to the 1700’s. It is a place known for its natural beauty lying close to the ocean and the botanical gardens of the University of Bergen that is also home to a five-year integrated Masters in Music Therapy course and GAMUT- the Grieg Academy Music Therapy Research Centre.

A conference like this - and a site like this, will most certainly remind that nature and time are the forces of vitality that bring together and hold us, moving creatively within health over generations past and those to come.
